Job Description

 

1. Formulate environmental health and safety policies. Provide advice on safety, protection and carry out audit to ensure that organization, clients and government standards on environmental health and safety are met.

2. Manage the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) activities to ensure compliance with external EHS regulations and standards and internal environment policies and management system.

3. Activities may include: monitor environment performance, identify risks or areas for improvement, conduct safety audits, on-site inspections to identify workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices or conditions, investigate environmental or safety incidents, prepare reports and recommendations, implement waste management programs, develop and deliver EHS training programs, manage relationships with community or environmental stakeholders.

4. Monitor and evaluate the organization’s overall EHS performance to identify recurring problems, research, evaluate and recommend changes to technology, equipment, systems or process that will improve the organization’s EHS performance.

5. Provide technical expertise and advice on EHS issues to managers to help them manage their EHS responsibilities.

6. Stay current with proposed and actual changes in environmental regulations so the organization’s EHS policies remain current and relevant.

7. Lead, direct and evaluate a team of EHS professionals to ensure the organizations EHS strategy is implemented effectively within established budgets and organization complies with relevant regulations, laws and standards.

8. Have knowledge of sustainable development, carbon footprint, energy management.

 

Qualifications

 

1. Bachelor’s Degree required in Occupational Health and Safety OHS. Bachelors Degree in another area of study is acceptable along with relevant demonstrated OHS work experience.

2. 10 – 20 year of professional experience working in an EHS related function with primary focus in Health, Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs.

3. Must have extensive knowledge of local and national standards.

4. Demonstrated experience in the application of EHS management systems.

5. Excellent technical writing abilities.

6. Must have demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and achieve significant, complex goals and objectives.

7. Excellent and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

8. Demonstrated experience with program/product/process implementation.

9. Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications.

10. Self-motivated, self starter, must be able to work independently.

11. Ability to drive results, driving change, business understanding and teamwork.

12. Thorough understanding of risk management as it relates to EHS and loss control
